Living Apartment Together

Yves Degryse, 2025

Like a can of sardines, the façade of an apartment building opens up magically. The city rushes by, but our gaze slows down.

A man with a lover who just won’t return his calls. A lonely child with a microscope. A young couple madly in love who suddenly see death looming. Living Apartment Together tells the stories of 13 residents in a block of flats. Their lives touch through a song that seeps through the walls, a pizza that is left at the wrong door, a fire alarm.

Life unfolds on a life-size projection in five apartments and a stairwell. Meticulously edited. The spectators watch with headphones on as characters step out of the projection. Around them, city life rushes by.

A sensory performance somewhere between film and theatre about the quiet beauty of the seemingly banal. About invisible synchronicity. About the realisation that every beginning is nothing more than a continuation.

Living Apartment Together is a creation by Yves Degryse, artistic director at NTGent and BERLIN. Degryse collaborated with renowned author Angelo Tijssens on the script. This performance is the successor to The making of Berlin, one of the best performances of 2022 according to Belgian leading newspapers De Standaard and De Morgen.
